Checkers in American English or Draughts in British English is a board game for two players which involve diagonal moves of uniform game pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over opponent pieces.

The name derives from the verb to draw or to move. The most popular forms are American checkers or English draughts, played on an 8×8 checkerboard which this page does focus on.  Games similar to checkers were played in the days of the early Egyptian pharaohs. Almost every country in this world has some variations of checkers. To name some Russian draughts, also played on an 8×8, and international draughts, played on a 10×10 board. Canadian checkers and Singaporean or Malaysian checkers are played on a 12×12 checkerboard.
